What a week at Burghley Horse Trials 2024

An exciting and wonderful end to a fabulous week at The Defender Burghley Horse Trials 2024.

Horse Weigh Ambassador, Harry Meade was third and fourth on two mares, Cavalier Crystal, who also finished third in 2023, and Annaghmore Valoner, who really stood up at this level. Plus, Harry finished 12th on his third ride Superstition.

Harry told Horse & Hound, “It’s been a whirlwind week trying to do all three horses justice, and so this is a great outcome,” his late father Richard won Burghley exactly 60 years ago in 1960.

The start to Harry’s Burghley went very well with all three horses, Annaghmore Valoner scoring 27.8, Cavalier Crystal scoring 31.3 and Superstition scoring 32.1 but the real turing point for Harry climbing the score board was after cross country day. The two mares jumping clear inside the time and Supersition jumping clear with +10.8 time, bring all 3 horse into the top 15 riders going in to the final showjumping phase.

Harry showed his class riding as he navigated all three horses round in style, 2 jumping clears and Annaghmore Valoner just rubbing a rail to drop her just behind Cavalier Crystal.

Horse Weigh were delighted to be again, for another year, the supplier for the horse weighing platforms at Burghley Horse Trials 2024. The world’s greatest 5* equestrian event, acknowledged globally by leading riders as their ultimate competitive goal, Defender Burghley is also a key date in the summer social season.
