Horse Weigh have won the inaugural BEVA Sustainability Award

Sustainability Award Horse Weigh

Our 25th consecutive year exhibiting at the BEVA Congress lead to Horse Weigh being the recipient of the inaugural BEVA Sustainability Award. This is a new award as part of BEVA’s sustainability programme endeavouring  to recognise innovative and environmentally responsible practices.

As all equine hospitals are required to have a horse weighbridge, many equine vets who do have one are consequently recognised as leading practices, it is important that sustainability is taken into account during manufacturing to ensure that the platforms are long-lasting.

With some units achieving an age of at least 18 years, these platforms provide consistent and reliable sustainability. Due to the use of high quality and long-lasting components, there is no need for constant reproduction. To further aid sustainability, Horse Weigh encourages the recycling and upgrading of older models, eliminating landfill requirements. Horse Weigh often buy back their weighbridges and can either repurpose the parts into new platforms or sell them as second-hand. The purchase of second-hand platforms is highly popular within the equine world: our high-quality manufacturing means that a second-hand platform performs to the same standards as a new one. Due to these sustainable practices, there is a significantly improved carbon footprint.

When in use, these platforms are equally sustainable. With no requirement for external electricity, the platforms are self-sufficient when in use. The indicator itself only requires a recharge once every 600-700 horses for three to four hours.
