Somerleyton April, an in-foal Suffolk Punch mare, was used to demonstrate the Horse Weigh weighbridge at The National Stud annual parade of stallions, and tipped at the scales at 1155kg, the heaviest weight to date recorded by supplier Horse Weigh.
Suffolk Punches are believed to be Britain's heaviest horses and representatives of the breed were paraded to a large crowd at the fair.
Somerleyton April is in-foal to champion Suffolk Punch stallion, Golden Grandchild, and he weighed in at the event at 1,030kg.
Fiona Flemming from Eyke Stud, where Golden Grandchild stands said: "We were surprised at his weight. Knowing the true figure will enable us to maintain his peak condition for showing and has given us a precise calculation for dosage when worming. As you can imagine, we are usually only able to guess the weight of a Suffolk Punch. |
